How my “9 to 5” helps boost my “5 to 12”

Over the past couple of years, the culture has definitely shifted from going to school to get a good 9 to 5 job and ultimately working for someone else to “F the man – I’m working for myself.” There has even been a surplus of FB groups dedicated to encouraging people to quit their day jobs (with a plan in place of course) and fully invest their time (and resources) into their own entrepreneurial endeavors. I agree with some of these sentiments as I’m even in the process of working on my own creative gigs that…

Issa Bride – My Proposal Story

If you haven’t heard the news by now, I’m a whole fiancée! Impossible to be a half-I just wanted to spice up this post.   Anyweigh,   During our vacation to Dallas for the New Years holiday, we got engaged. What I thought was just another photo shoot (he takes my pictures all the time back in STL) was a pre-planned proposal.   We went to the Continental Gateway Bridge in Dallas (his home town) and he started snapping some pictures but kept positioning me by the skyline and would get upset if I moved (sign…

All Denim Everything : Frugal Find

If I’m not decked out in neutral, my second go to is anything denim – most of the time it is always paired together. It’s an easy grab and style outfit that I don’t have to think too much about when prepping for my day. My favorite being light denim or an acid wash jean. As always, you know I barely paid anything for it. This denim fringed top was an immediate eye-grabber. I found this number at the Salvation Army for all of $3.  It really reminds me of Jim Carey in The Mask. The…

“Big Red What They Call Me”

I am a true believer that every woman should do something drastic with their hair at least once in their life. When it comes to adding color to your hair, I think it holds the same truth as cutting your hair. Once you start, you don’t stop. I’ve dyed my hair from jet black every winter to honey blonde every fall. I’ve had a pixie cut when I was channeling my inner Toni Braxton/Nia Long (read about my hair journey here) all the way to an edgy mo-hawk and back to my fro. At the end…

A Fall Fair: Color Palettes and Frugal Finds

I don’t think I have a favorite color, but more so a favorite color palette. Whether it’s 100 degrees outside or a nice shade of crisp orange and sandy leaves covering the front lawn welcoming the beginning of fall, my go-to colors are pretty much the same. The olive greens and all things shaded neutral. Not only do I have a knack for purchasing and styling items that fall in line with this color palette, but also fall in line with my budget. Over 95% of my wardrobe is thrifted (I talk a lot about that…

How to Prep for the New Year before the New Year

It’s so easy to fall in line with the traditional act of making a “New Year’s’ Resolution” – almost like it’s a trend rather than an intentional act of progress and growth. It is very seldom that most of us stick to our resolutions past January 31st anyway. I wholeheartedly believe that the reason many of us fail to follow through with our annual verbal commitment is due to our lack of preparation before New Years. If we are honest with ourselves, how many of us actually sat down and intentionally thought about a goal/accomplishment…
