Stacey Pugh, STL native and founder of Hunni Pop (digital platform that specializes in everything from brand management to media) hosted the 2nd annual #LemonPepperKickBackSTL. Inspired by Issa Rae’s random Lemon Pepper Kick Back last year, she decided to replicate it and create the same vibes for her STL folk. If you missed it, I don’t know what to tell you.
The event took place at the two-story sports bistro, Champs on Jefferson, leaving guests with a choice to enjoy a round of uno on the main floor or put in a request with the beautiful DJ Makeda Kravitz on the 2nd floor.
STL natives always talk about how small the city is which is more often than not followed by an annoyed sentiment about always seeing the same people. Ironically, that’s what is so dope about this event. I always describe Lemon Pepper Kick Back as a high school basement party on a Friday night where people you know who went to different schools text you to “pull up” – except we can legally drink now. You are excited to see familiar faces, flik it up for the gram, raise your red solo cup and jig to the tunes you had on your ipod back in high school.
Just like the true lady Stacey is, she made sure no one left empty-handed. When everyone was ready to dip-out for the night, we were gifted with a “hangover bag” filled with a Vess soda (if it aint Fruit Punch or Cream I don’t want it) and a bag of Red Hot Riplets – the true St. Louis way.
Of course the event wouldn’t have been successful without the help of its sponsors:
