July 8th Journal Entry: Lord……

Good morning Lord,

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you” – Psalm 89:14

What is going on today isn’t new to us or new to You, but I’m sure you are hurting as if this is the first time. You give us free will and in return, we spit in your face. We exude hatred towards Your children on a daily basis and expect you to Keep blessing us. I’m not sure how many times the word “love” is used in the bible, but I know it is used enough times to know that You aren’t playing about that word. You expect us to do just that – love. Many ask how can YOU allow such things to happen. If you are such a loving God, how can You sit back and watch these things happen? I know you are up there asking us that very same question. As your children, we are allowing these things to occur. Your love is unconditional and never wavering but we love with condition and waver when we encounter those different from us and don’t agree with. Evil occurs at the hands of error-filled human, not You. The God I serve would never grant us the green light to commit acts of hatred toward one another. I don’t understand why all of this is going on, but maybe that’s not where my focus needs to be.

Lord, it’s so easy to get caught up and consumed in the media, social media, and petty dialogue. My feelings are all in disarray and I know that is because I’ve allowed my time with You to be optional – if at all. Everybody and everything else has moved up on my priority list and I have the nerve to wonder why these current events have shifted my focus and has me all out of wack. I’m feeding my flesh while allowing my spirit to become malnourished. Well Lord, here I am…. Hurt, anxious, emotional, and desperate for you. For peace. For a calming. To hear Your quiet and still voice in the midst of the piercing screams of this nation.

This morning, the first morning in a long time, I opted to place my phone down and pick up your word. I know how I and many others around the world feel about injustice. Everybody has an opinion and I too have been guilty of allowing my frustration to form words of “one level short of” hatred for others and falling into the trap of division. The enemy knows exactly what he’s doing. This morning, I just wanted time with you and I wanted to know your views on injustice so I went to the book of James. These words are just as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago….

“My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but you say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom He promised those who love him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

If you really keep the royal law found in scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” -James 2:1-8.

Lord, I don’t have the answer but I do know what is going on right now isn’t it.

May we never lose hope fighting for justice and striving to keep peace.

“Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness” – James 3:18

Lord, may we never stop praying. That is not the ONLY action but definitely the first.

“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective (availeth much)” – James 5:16

These are sad and trying times but honestly, every season is a sad and trying time for someone. I’ve learned that it’s whatever we identify with that affects us the most. As minorities. As lower class citizens. As fatherless children. We all have our season(s) of suffering but you continually provide hope and mercy.

“ Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, b/c you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance”- James 1:2-3

I pray to remain steadfast in You. That we cast down and speak against the spirit of defeat because that is not of you. That we block every feeling of hatred that attempts to saturate our spirit. No one is hurting more than You are. No one. May we remain encouraged and nourish our spirits with Your word. Hard times are guaranteed but You have promised to always be there to get us through. Help us, Lord. We need you.

These and many other things we ask in your name, Jesus.

Amen
